Problems with small needles?
By Bweb18
... Then these spring gutter strainers are the solution. I bought a set for our house in the rainy Puget Sound area and couldn't be happier. My gutters are being filled with small fir & hemlock needles, pine cones, & twigs ALL YEAR LONG. In the fall, a few leaves blow in too. Other types of plastic, metal mesh, or "birdcage" strainers did an equally good job of stopping the needles from going down the downspout to avoid plugging up the drain lines. However, unless the gutters had been cleaned out within the past couple of weeks, a heavy rain would cause the gutters would overflow, cascading onto my deck or flower beds.
These spring style gutter strainers hold 95% of the debris from going down the spout. But as water fills up the gutter, it can still flow down through the open top of the strainer. Even with trees hovering over the house, I now only have to clean out the gutters 2-3 times per year.
The stainless steel construction makes these a bit more expensive that what the big box stores have in stock, but you're paying for a lifetime product (no/minimal galvanic corrosion), and a superior functional design. They are extremely tough; you don't have to worry about damaging them.
One side benefit - Some downspouts connect to the gutter with four screws. These screws can make it difficult to insert any type of gutter strainer because they partially block the inside of the downspout. But I found this coiled SPRING strainer can actually twist past the screws and completely into the downspout. (The screws catch the spring almost like a 4-point thread helical thread). While not necessary, the screws actually hold the spring strainer in place even better.
I'm very glad to see the manufacturer is now selling these on Amazon.com. Buy with confidence and throw your other strainers in the garbage.

ease of use & simple install
By David J Morgan
the spiral design and light bulb shape, seemed to make this the answer too not having a clogged gutter down spout.
I would not have believed it! I had a troublesome spot, leaves, needles, and little shingle stones. Eureka this works!
I still check out of habit, but find only larger pieces, no clogs, it's like the small stuff that used to stop it up
is now organized and sent on its way. My recommendation for this thing is, "it's about time" it must have been
thought up by someone who cleaned a lot of gutters. Installs and removes easily, looks like will last for years,
and strong enough not to collapse with openings big enough not to clog. dave

Great product!
By Liz
WOW! I finally found a gutter strainer that works exactly as described. I purchased my 7 gutter strainers based on reviews posted here. I am very, very pleased with the results. I have no more clogging in the openings to the downspouts which means no more overflowing gutters. Kudos to whoever came up with this design!
