Awesome product, works great, saves time and SAFER!
By Kenneth Wilson
I agree, I don't really understand the negative reviews on this product. I bought a box of them at Target, broke the first two clips figuring it out, then got it down pat. And PRESTO, I hung all my lights in about 15 minutes (usually would take hours, on top of a ladder!).
The clips do hold quite securely if you get them clipped on correctly. It helped me to clip on a couple of them by hand, without using a pole, in order to understand how they're supposed to fit. After that, I hung the rest with a threaded extension-pole, and didn't have any trouble with them coming loose. They've been up for over a week now, including a pretty serious thunderstorm, and nothing has come loose.
Using these is SO MUCH SAFER than going up and down a ladder and hanging from the eaves. I can't imagine using anything else now.
I definitely, wholeheartedly recommend this product.
Note that I hung all of them on the outer edge of my raingutter. I have not tried using them on shingles, but they are supposed to work that way also.

Great if you know the trick
By K. Schaab
I've used these clips for 3 years now. I use them on my gutters and I use them to hang two strands of lights per clip. The first year I encountered the same problem that others have with the first few clips. They would not stay on and it was completely frustrating. It wasn't until a few times of doing this that I learned how to put these on. Each clip must be pulled down straight (you are standing directly underneath the clip) until it clicks onto the gutter. Then it will not come off. They are a little problematic taking them off though, when pushing up they tend to pop off the gutter and sometimes they pop right into the gutter. There is a trick to taking them off too which is to provide force mostly out while pushing slightly up.
With these clips I can string 150' of lights in 20-30 minutes all from the ground. They work great if you know the trick!

Well designed and effective
By Steven V. Hight
I have been using the same set of clips for four Colorado winters. I have never had one break, and they are easy to use. I use a telescoping extension pole I bought for changing light bulbs in our kitchen. The clips slide easily under shingles and snap firmly into place. They have never fallen or been blown down. It takes me only minutes to put up a light string with these clips, and at the end of the season I stand below the roofline and tug the light string, effectively "unzipping" the lights from the roof. Just don't do that too quickly, or the clips will fly off and get lost in the snow!
I suspect many of the reviewers who have reported problems have hooked the wires onto the wrong part of the clip. I've accidentally done this myself a couple of times. When this happens, the clip can't fully engage with a shingle because the wire is in the way. The clip won't snap into place then, although part of it will slide under the shingle, giving the false impression that it is properly in place. It's also important when sliding the clip under a shingle that it slide under only one shingle and not where two shingles overlap. Two shingles are too thick.
I have never used the clips on my gutter except just to see how it was done when I first bought them, and they appeared to snap into place just fine when I did.
