3iffy fit on 6" gutters despite description claim
By rufous
First off, the price for these keeps fluctuating. , I ordered tan twice in april, '12 (cuz I hadn't ordered enough boxes the first time) for $25.23 and then $27.15...they're now (may)$29.99. If color is not an issue with you, dark brown now is $10+.

The product's Amazon listing is not entirely clear as to what size gutters these guards fit. The listing says that they'll fit most 5" gutters which it claims most homes have, and the product description says they'll fit 5" and 6" gutters. I assumed ours were 5"--not smart, but figured they'd fit 6" gutters too cuz it said so in the description. Just to be sure, I looked for 6" guards by Gutter Guard Pro but didn't find any, so it appears that this product is meant for both 5" and 6" gutters--and, again, the description says so. So I place my order which arrived within a week.

It turns out we have 6" gutters. With 6" gutters you'll find that you lose the benefit of the guard's drip edge extension cuz once in place it barely rests on the gutter's front lip. I had no trouble slipping the full length of the angled back edge of each guard between the roof and the shingles, but since our gutters are 6" wide, only about 1/4" of that edge rests on the roof--nothing else holds that edge in place. To secure the guards in place and keep that angled edge from slipping out from under the shingles, I had to drill 2 holes into the drip edge (each one abt 10" in from the ends) and secure that edge to the gutter's front lip w/ stainless steel metal screws, which meant a trip to the hardware store once I realized I'd need them. (These come singly at 15¢ each or in a box of 100 for $7 something. Painted ones cost much more.)

The guard ends overlap some--I left a small space between them for expansion as the instructions advise. The drip edge sits on the gutter front lip with barely any lip showing--there's just enough room to screw that edge down into the gutter lip. You'll need a scissor type cutter to shape the guard ends at corners. At first i tried mitering 2 ends but found that I could just have the ends overlap at the corners and screw them down. There was some cutting with a saw and fitting of the guard end anyway at corners, but not a hassle.

The guards look great (color was important to us cuz they're for the new garage gutters which we look down on from 2nd story windows.

I hope the weight of snow this winter will not push down on the guards and have that angled edge under the shingles drop down--there's no support from the gutter hangers. Keeping my fingers crossed. (Somewhere I read that if you have 4" x 3" downspouts, that you probably have 6" gutters.)

If I had to do this over again, knowing that I have 6" gutters I'd look for guards that claimed unequivocally to fit 6" gutters. These barely do the job re fit and the much touted benefit of the drip edge is lost cuz it doesn't extend beyond the gutter lip to work...Success remains to be seen this winter....If they collapse, I will down-rate my 3-star review. Docked one point for iffy fit on 6" gutters and one point for extra hassle of drilling holes and trip to hardware store to buy screws.

Also, if unsure about fit, I'd suggest that you order 1 box first to try out the fit. This product arrived pre-packaged by the manufacturer, 3-4' guards to a box which meant that we received 10 separate boxes. If we'd had to return the product, that would have been 10 separate boxes to ship back.

4Easy to Install
By P. Reider
This screen system is easy to install and snaps securely in place. Has built in overlap for each section which works weel. Corners are a bit more challenging. Home Depot has a very similar product at a much lesser cost which looks to be very similar. Hoping that the higher price paid results in longer carefree life. High cost = 1 star less.

5Loved the drip edge
By Herman Guevara
The product was easy to install and heavy duty- which is what I was looking for as most of the stuff at the hardware or big boxes are really cheap and poorly made and don't work long term. The drip edge feature- which eliminates striping and staining on the gutters themselves is a BIG PLUS
