works well, but...

the reviews were accurate. this does save me humping the ladder around the house for the monthly gutter cleaning that has to happen on my house in the woods.
What the next generation "gutter sense" will have is a mirror attached above the tongs that allows you to look down into the gutters as you work.
You have no idea whats going on up there and it actually takes longer to guess whether your done by "grabbing" areas and coming up empty handed than the actual cleaning. i modified my own tool to have a plastic safety mirror mounted to this tool and it works much better.

Won't work in many gutters

I ordered this from the manufacturer and discovered when I got it that it would barely fit between the roof overhang and the outer edge of many of my gutters. I would grab a bunch of leaves and almost all of them would pull back into the gutter as I tried to squeeze them out through the narrow space. The way the jaws are designed, they cannot grasp the leaves tightly enough to force them through. It was very, very frustrating.
The manufacturer was nice about giving me a refund, and although I'm sure it works great if it has enough clearance, there must be other homeowners like me for whom it will not work. For Gutter Sense to work well, there needs to be enough clearance not only for the jaws of the tool to get into the gutter but for them to get back out holding a bunch of leaves which will always be larger than the jaws themselves and which they they cannot grip very tightly no matter how hard you pull on the rope.
If essentially the entire of top of your gutter is clear of roof overhang (as it is in the misleadingly simplistic video on their web site), then this tool may work very well for you; if your roof overhangs the gutter by any significant extent, then you may want to save yourself some aggravation and look for a different solution.
I have severe acrophobia and very little income, so I have HAD to find a way to clean my own gutters from the ground. Although this tool did not work for me, I found one that does, and I recommend it very highly. It is a very simple attachment for a wet/dry vacuum that you can use either to blow the leaves out of the gutters or vacuum them out.
It is available under several brand names; I bought mine at Sears, but the same product is available here as Shop Vac 2 1/2" Gutter Cleaning Kit. I was amazed at how well it worked even with my tiny 8 gallon Shop Vac, but I just got a bigger, more powerful vacuum to make the work go faster this fall. I'm actually looking forward to doing it this year.

Keeps me on the ground

I love this product! I absolutely hate getting on a ladder for any reason, and especially for cleaning the gutters. But, having to pay someone else to do it is not appealing either.
I tried several DIY approaches to gutter cleaning including attachments for blowers, water wands, and power washer attachments. None performed well, especially on second story gutters.
So, saw this online and bought it direct from the manufacturer. It's a very simple device - basically a pair of salad tongs that you operate with a rope. I purchased a lightweight aluminum extension pole at Home Depot that (when fully extended) reaches a second story gutter with ease. (It's part of their collection of tools for window washing, but you can also get extension poles for painting that will also work, although they are heavier).
This is a breeze to use. I find it works best if the leaves are a bit wet - they are easier to grab when they clump together. After a bit of practice I can do all my gutters in about 20 minutes. Best of all, no ladders! I've been using this for a bit over three years, and it has held up very well.
For most of my gutters there is enough room between the roofing shingle overhang and the gutter to use the tool as-is. But, I have a few sections that have a narrow gap that makes it difficult to angle the Gutter Sense into the opening. I wound up purchasing a second one, and cutting down the paddles so the tool can fit into a narrower opening. It picks up less, but it gets the job done for those tight fits.
