5Awesome Product

I wish i could find these in my local hardware store. Easy to install but will need to cut the extension at 45 degrees so will need tin snips. Flips up easily when needed to cut the grass. I would definitly buy these again.

4Good Product but Ordering Process Needs Improvement
By R. Taft
After trying various types of plastic flip up downspout extensions including the plastic roll up type (don't waste your money), I saw this hinge in Family Handyman magazine and decided to give these a try. The hinge is as shown in the pictures and if you can use tin snips or a hacksaw, pretty easy to install. I do have some concerns about the longevity of the hinge portion but time will tell. Now that it is summer time, I'm cutting or edging around the house on a weekly basis and it is nice to be able to flip the extensions out of the way and since my extensions are the 4" aluminum type, they will hold up significantly better in the Florida sun than the plastic types.

The picture showing the downspout elbow sitting on a flat surface is a bit misleading in that if you cut the extension on a 45 degree angle as shown, the end of the gutter extension will be dip below the end of the elbow when it is raised to the vertical position. I found that raising the elbow so it is a least 1-2" above the ground ensures smooth operation.

I'm giving these 4 stars for two reasons not related to the actual hinge operation. As the review above mine mentioned, the Amazon page is not clear enough as to what you are actually ordering i.e. one hinge, set of hinges, shipping applies to one hinge or multiple hinges etc. So before I placed the order, I called the company to ensure I was ordering the correct number. In my case I had 6 downspouts so I ordered 6 total which included the right and left side hinges. Shipping was the same if I ordered one or 6. In addition, the hinge pictures show the hinge attached via screws to both the extension and the downspout elbow. The hinge or at least my order shipped with only enough screws to attach the hinge to the extension and not the elbow. This should be clear before ordering or the company could include enough screws to do both sides. Mine arrived painted white which was just the color I needed but again the color wasn't clear when ordering via Amazon. Overall I'm pleased with the end product.

I like it! It is a simple yet fantastic product. No more dead grass under the downspout. Makes mowing the grass easier.
